Menus and Mexico

Well, it has finally arrived. Violeta and I will be going to Mexico for a short break and will return at the end of May. It has been a couple of years since we have been going non-stop, full speed with running the store, working a full time job and studying full time at American University. So, I have finally quit my job and Violeta took her last final yesterday. YES! Such a long time, and now we are at the beginning of a transition. & what better way to bring in that transition, than to go to the Yucatan Penisula and wander around, swim in the ocean and sink slowly into the sand underneath the warm sun.
Sooooo, when we come back it will be the beginning of stone fruit season, and that means peaches, plums, apricots and nectarines. Also, on the horizon will be strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and raspberries. We will be working with local farmers this year from Pennsylvannia, Maryland and Virginia. This makes the whole process of making gelato and sorbetto all the much sweeter. To be able to work with local farmers, to know where the fruit comes from and to ensure that we will be working with fruit picked at its peak, takes this whole process to another level. It reminds me in a way of the coffee world, and how they travel to the country of origin and work directly with the farmer and the community. It puts more soul into the product and the process. So, I can’t wait to start working with these fruits, especially with the peaches, being the Georgia boy that I am, or was, or still am, whatever?!

So, while we are gone, we will have a fixed menu of 22 flavors.
